Cochrane Tobacco Addiction Group

More about us

The Cochrane Tobacco Addiction group has its editorial base in the University of Oxford Department of Primary Health Care. It is supported by the department as part of its Cancer Research Programme. It was established in 1996 to prepare and maintain systematic reviews of interventions relevant to tobacco control.

The co-ordinating editor is Dr Tim Lancaster, Reader in Primary Health Care, University of Oxford. The other editors of the group are:
Professor Robert West, Professor of Health Psychology and Director of Tobacco Studies at the Cancer Research UK Health Behaviour Unit.
Dr Paul Aveyard, Department of Primary Care & General Practice, University of Birmingham
Professor John Hughes, Department of Psychiatry, University of Vermont.

The work of the group is supported by the UK Department of Health Research & Development Programme and there are 1.4 FTE staff. Kate Cahill and Lindsay Stead share the roles of Review Group Co-ordinator and Trial Search Co-ordinator, and are also review authors. Statistical support is provided by Dr Rafael Perera.

The success of the group is based on the commitment and enthusiasm of more than 100 review authors who contribute to the preparation and updating of  reviews. The group has almost 50 published reviews and further protocols in progress. We would also like to  acknowledge the valuable contribution of our peer referees who provide pre-publication review of all protocols and reviews.
